MAKI UMEHARA
During the exchange study programme in Pittsburgh, and after that, through her work in Düsseldorf, in which she lived in, Maki Umehara especially interested in encountering the shifts in the meaning of things in psychological or physical dislocation, or collaboration and communication that arises as working processes. Her work investigates the topics such as intervention of image and story in our reality. To change audiences' viewpoints and to perceive these processes, she explores what remains necessary to her. Her exhibitions include collaborative projects by nüans (2006-2016). Her research includes a doctoral study at the Tokyo University of the Arts (2013-2016).
Maki Umehara
Born in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. She attended Carnegie Mellon University, exchange study programme in 1999. Graduate from Nagoya Zokei University of Art and Design in 2000. 2000-2006 Kunstakademime Düsseldorf. She recieved a MA degree; Master Student. Grants for Overseas Study Programme for Artists from Bunkacho, Agency for Cultural Affairs, Government of Japan in 2002 (for 3years, Düsseldorf); Grants for Overseas Study by Young Artists from Pola Art Foundation, Japan in 2006 (for 1 year, Düsseldorf). She recieved a MFA degree from Sandberg Institute (Amsterdam).
